How do I
use the advanced e-Mail settings in Outlook 2000?
If you have been
sent a .iaf file for your e-Mail then please read the instructions on our Importing
a .iaf file in to Outlook 98/2000.
These
instructions are written for Microsoft Outlook 2000. They will work with Outlook
98, but some of the screen shots may look different, and some of the names may
change.
Launch
Outlook by double clicking on the icon for it. Select Tools then Accounts...

Next
you need to select the account that you wish to modify, and select "Properties"
(Highlighted in image)

In
the new window that appears you can set and change a lot of details. First of
all there is the name that you want to use for the account. This is the name you
will see on your screen when you send and receive e-Mail and when you edit your
account. The Organization box will be empty. Type in your company name (and/or
department) into this area. Reply address does not need to be filled in unless
you are using a different reply address, but you may want to add in your e-Mail
address here.

Across the top
of this box there are tabs. Click on the last one (Advanced).
You should never
change the Server Port Numbers, or tick the Secure Connection boxes. If you are
using a slow connection (especially if it is through a cellular phone) you may
want to change the Server Time-out setting to 3 minutes.
If you are using
a notebook and a desktop PC or 2 different desktops, you can set Outlook to leave
your e-Mail on the server so that both machines can download it. Click the box
under Delivery marked "Leave a copy of messages on server" - you can
then select how long they should be left on there for download.
